RAC Refrigeration has been involved with the services and repairs of Japanese Tuna vessels that come to South Africa since 1997.
Each Japanese Tuna vessel is fitted with an advanced -60 Deg.C plant, Provision plant and main AC plant. It is imperative that these plants operate problem free for the duration of their long voyages and thus require regular specialised servicing and repairs.

RAC Refrigeration is responsible for the full maintenance and repairs of the following typical refrigeration systems found on these Japanese Tuna vessels:

MAIN PLANT
REFRIGERANT: R22 (Commonly used) or R404A (New vessels) or Ammonia/Nh3
COMPRESSORS: 3-4 x Hasegawa 62VZ / Mycom SF62 (2 stage, 8 Cylinder compressors) each fitted with intercoolers
EXPANSION VALVES: 20+ Saginomiya TEV or Danfoss AKV electronic expansion valves
CONDENSERS: 2 x Sea water cooled condensers
COMPONENTS: Liquid cooler, Silicagel or Molecular sieve dryer, Oil separators, Receivers, Safety valves, etc..
FREEZERS/HOLDS: 2-4 Blast freezers to rapidly freeze the Tuna to -60 Deg. C + Large fish holds encased in hairpin coils (natural convection cooling)

PROVISION PLANT

REFRIGERANT: R22 or R404A
COMPRESSORS: Teikoku / Bitzer / Coldpower / Daikin
EXPANSION VALVES: 4+ Saginomiya or Danfoss TEV
CONDENSERS: Seawater or fresh water (Fresh water unit require plate heat exchanger)
COMPONENTS: Silicagel or Molecular sieve dryer, Oil separator, Receiver, etc..
FREEZERS/HOLDS: Cold room, Veg Room, Meat Store

MAIN AC PLANT

REFRIGERANT: R22 or R404A
COMPRESSORS: Teikoku / Bitzer / Coldpower / Daikin
EXPANSION VALVES: 1+ Saginomiya or Danfoss TEV
CONDENSERS: Seawater or fresh water (Fresh water unit require plate heat exchanger)
COMPONENTS: Silicagel or Molecular sieve dryer, barrel/volute fan, ducted to cabins etc
